Do you know for sure that you will go to heaven when you die, or when the Lord returns? There are some things you need to do and believe to have assurance of your salvation. (That is salvation from hell). This is a simple explanation, I am still working on a longer explanation.
A - Admit/acknowledge that you are a sinner. We are all sinners, but not everyone admits it. First, let me define "sin." Sin is the actions and thoughts that we have that go against what the Lord has laid out for us to do (through His commandments and in the whole of the Bible). Sin separates a person from God.
Here is a passage from Luke where Jesus is telling a story about a Pharisee and a tax collector (publican). Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, "God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess." And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, "God be merciful to me a sinner." I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Luke 18:10-14 (KJV)
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 (KJV)
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:8,10 (KJV)
B- Believe that Jesus is God's Son who lived a sinless life and died on the cross that you can be saved. He was the ultimate sacrifice (thus we no longer kill animals to find salvation). After Jesus died and was buried He rose from the dead! This shows that Jesus is more powerful than even death!
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned. Luke 23:45-48 (KJV)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (KJV)
C- Confess your sins to God. Ask Him to forgive you. Then, believe that He will!
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 (KJV)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9 (KJV)
After God has forgiven your sins you need to see yourself as having been given a clean start. Rejoice that you are forgiven!
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12 (KJV)
Repent of your old sins, turn away from them completely. That is what repent means, to turn away from.
Be baptized. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:38 (KJV)
These steps are a general guide of how to receive God's forgiveness for sins. If you mean all of these things that you have done and said, and if you continue in this way, then you can be assured of your salvation! Praise Jesus because he makes all things new!
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor 5:17 (KJV)
